Technical 4: Glazing

Churchill glazes are uniquely formulated and applied to reduce the surface roughness of our ceramics, which lowers the available sites that bacteria are able to adhere to, and this in turn reduces the amount of bacteria that is able to grow on the surface. Our glaze adds to the overall durability of our products by being resilient to the harsh hospitality environment.

What Our Glazing Means for Yo

Scratch Resistant Glaze

Finished in our durable and scratch resistant glaze that’s specially formulated for professional tableware, your plates will look great for longer.

Glazed Base

Glazing the base of our products means there will be less scratching when plates are stacked, It also means moisture cannot penetrate into the ceramics through the base, causing bacteria to grow.

Flawless Finish

Spray glazing creates a smooth, flawless finish. Our glaze is also specially formulated to remove the impurities that create faults.

Stability & Consistency

It is important that our glaze interacts with our ceramic body at the optimum rate, this is essential for thermal shock resistance in use. During manufacturing as the thermal temperature in the kiln increases both the clay and glaze expand, it is important that they expand together, at the ideal pace. This is called coefficient thermal expansion, testing this ensures that the glaze and clay consistently interact together so that our products don't fail in use or 'craze'.
