Our Sustainability Journey

From clay to plate

As a business with over 225 years of heritage, Churchill’s commitment to a sustainable future has been an integral part of our company ethos for generations. Our past continues to shape our future; as we evolve, grow and innovate we’re able to draw on a rich history of expertise to continuously reduce our impact on the planet, support our people and improve our UK made products.

Local Clay Materials

Our raw clay materials are sourced from a responsible supplier within the UK.

Waste Reduction

100% of dry waste clay is recycled and any over-sprayed glaze is cleaned and reused.

Firing Innovations

We are continuously improving kiln efficiencies while actively trialing alternative fuels.

Investment in Renewable Energy

In 2019 we started investing in solar energy and now have over 5100 panels onsite.

We believe in an actions speak louder than words approach to our sustainability journey

Below are a few highlights from our journey so far

Once Firing

Most ceramics are fired twice, but we have been once firing our cups and small bowls since 1981.

Decarbonisation In Action Award

We won the 2023 UK Ceramics award in recognition of our proactive approach to decarbonisation.

Recycled Packaging

100% recyclable packaging means we don’t pass on any non-recyclables to our customers.

Continuous Investment

Over the past 10 years we have invested £26 million in manufacturing technology and efficiencies.
